Written by Year 5 students from Jannali Public School after participating in the Deadly Writing Festival – a collaboration between Littlescribe and Dream Big Education & Wellbeing Consulting with author Corey Tutt – this class book celebrates science, culture, and storytelling.
Each student researched and wrote about Australia’s incredible reptiles using Littlescribe’s DEEPER™ writing model – combining factual accuracy, imagination, and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives.
Created through Littlescribe’s national publishing and literacy program, Reckless Reptiles is both a celebration of learning and a showcase of student authorship.
Printed book – 24 pages, A4 portrait format, softcover (250gsm).
When learning meets storytelling, magic happens.
After joining the Deadly Writing Festival – a collaboration between Littlescribe and Dream Big Education & Wellbeing Consulting – with author and DeadlyScience founder Corey Tutt, the Year 5 students of Jannali Public School became published authors through Littlescribe’s national literacy and publishing program.
Reckless Reptiles is a vibrant, collaborative exploration of Australia’s most extraordinary creatures – where science meets culture and creativity sparks discovery.
Each student selected a reptile, researched its biology and behaviour, and wrote through the lens of Littlescribe’s DEEPER™ writing model: Draft, Elevate, Edit, Publish, Evaluate, Reflect. The result is a classroom masterpiece blending:
Scientific inquiry and factual accuracy
Creative writing and visual literacy
Cultural understanding through Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge
Environmental awareness linked to sustainability and conservation
As an exemplar of student writing, Reckless Reptiles embodies Littlescribe’s mission: to connect creativity, curriculum, and community through story.
