Indie Haggett is a proud Wiradjuri student and author of Listen to My Story invites readers into her world through a compelling blend of self-portrait artwork and narrative.
Each page reveals layers of her cultural identity and personal experiences, enriched by the wisdom and traditions passed down from her mother and grandmother.
This heartfelt journey was further inspired by Littlescribe’s workshops conducted with the Bankstown Network of Schools, offering profound insights into the perspective of a young Wiradjuri girl.

Listen To My Story is a heartfelt narrative by Wiradjuri student Indie Haggett, richly illustrated with self-portrait artwork. Born during Littlescribe’s Bankstown Network workshops, Indie’s original single-page illustration revealed hidden layers of cultural memory and intergenerational wisdom. Encouraged to expand this, her story evolved into a vivid 12-page work that explores her heritage, identity, and creative expression. This process echoes the collaborative spirit seen in Warami—a 120-page anthology created by First Nations students across the Bankstown Network
As an example of student-driven exemplar and the “hidden story within pictures,” Listen To My Story models the power of youth-led cultural storytelling. It’s a vital book for school and library collections seeking authentic Indigenous voices, visual literacy, and educational depth.
